lundi et mardi

bonsoir!
donc, Monday was our first day at l'IUFM. But first we had to get there. Felicity and I figured out the bus system on sunday evening. We were very proud of ourselves, although it is rather simple actually. We had a silly misunderstanding that evening with Travis and we ended up being on our own to figure out the buses. Ce n'est pas grave. C'est la vie sans les telephones. But we met Monday morning and went to our bus stop and made it to l'IUFM. We met with Anne Petit and she talked to us about our schedule. Each of us will be going to a different school. The first week we go to le lycée (highschool), after that middle school, then elementary school and then basically kindergarten. I am really excited. Anne also is helping us plan our weekend, we are planning a trip to Paris and the other weekends are still in the process of being planned. After we went over the schedules, she took us to where we can charge our "carte moneo" which is basically an OU ID with meal points and exchanges. After that we had lunch at l'IUFM. Then we met our prof de conversation française, Mme Guyot. She is really nice and it is really fun to talk to her. We get the opportunity to ask questions about how you say certain things in French that we aren't sure about, and she also helps us learn new phrases that might be useful for everyday life in Amiens. We meet with her everyday this week.
Today, we met with Anne at 9:30am and had a bit of coffee and then we walked to le centre-ville. We went into a bookstore and looked at a lot of childrens books and then also books that are used for teaching beginning level French.
After the bookstore, we went to the museum of Amiens. It had a lot of artifacts from other places but also things that have been found in Amiens. It was really interesting because it helped me put into perspective just how old this town really is. It's amazing.
We went to l'IUFM after the museum and met with Mme Guyot and had another few hours of conversation.
I am super excited because tomorrow Mme Guyot is meeting us by la tour perret and we are going to take a petite tour of Amiens on bikes! And we also get to go to the house of Jules Verne. Tomorrow should be a good day. I am going to try to take tons of photos on the bike tour. Lets just hope that my bike riding skills are good enough for me to multitask.

I think I will do an entire post just of photos soon. Maybe after the bike tour.

Okay, well yesterday I kinda of forgot to post this entry, so I'm just going to continue with this one and talk about today, wednesday.
Today we took a tour of Jules Verne's house. He was actually a very interesting person. I didn't know much about him before today, other than that he was a writer. He wrote "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea," "Around the World in Eighty Days," and "A Journey to the Center of The Earth." He wrote others, but those are his most famous. It was really cool because the tour of his home was completely in French and I could understand almost all of it. Maybe a few words escaped me here and there but other than that I completely understood. I can feel myself becoming better with the language. I love it. After we visited his house, we had a little lunch and then met Mme Guyot to rent bikes.
The bike ride was absolutely incredible. We want to rent them again and just ride around Amiens exploring. Mme Guyot took us to a part of Amiens that is absolutely beautiful. It is along the river, and there are boats and houses. The path is called "un chemin de halage" and it is always along a river. In english it's a "towpath" and it is used to pull a boat down a river. She took us to see "les hortillonnages" which are floating gardens. It was a great afternoon. I have a ton of photos to share.
Now we are just relaxing after a busy morning and afternoon and then we are having dinner at 7! I will post a entry of photos soon.
xoxo, à bientôt!
